Doctor and dentist Helena Afonso Agostinho (pictured) is the new president of the Portuguese Orthodontic Society (SPO). Speaking to Maxillaris – during the recent congress of the Portuguese Dental Association (OMD) – the professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto and the University of Barcelona expressed her intention to carry out an “integrative mandate”, meaning that everyone, especially those with an interest in orthodontics, “will have their place in the SPO”. Helena Afonso Agostinho also anticipates the new board’s focus on younger generations, stressing that the focus will be on “looking to the future without forgetting the past”. In other words, “the state of the art integrating all the skills, techniques and technologies within orthodontics”. Remember that orthodontics is an area of science that is undergoing rapid development. “Orthodontic treatment is not just about aesthetics, it is above all an integrated treatment that takes into account the patient’s function, aesthetics and harmony within the overall health of the patient,” emphasizes the newly appointed president of the SPO.
Helena Afonso Agostinho is also a specialist in Pediatric Dentistry by the OMD, has a postgraduate degree in Chronobiology and Sleep Medicine, holds a Master’s Degree in Orthodontics from the UAB (Barcelona) and a PhD from the University of Barcelona (UB).
